The rocker shared pics of the rite on social media, and the Bon Jovi singer’s honoris causa salute—wherein a chorus of grads erupted into “Livin’ on a Prayer”—became captured on film.

“It’s better to be a medical doctor than be in want of a doctor,” Bon Jovi shared online, the musician posting a trio of snapshots that confirmed he and fellow graduates posing with the university’s “Ben Franklin on the Bench” statue.
During the commencement, the musician—born just an hour away in Middlesex County, New Jersey—became extolled for his musical achievement and humanitarian efforts using college president Amy Gutmann. This is not the first time Bon Jovi has been honored by an educational institution. The singer acquired an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Monmouth University in 2001.
The singer’s namesake act, Bon Jovi, was covered in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 12 months. At the induction ceremony in April of 2018, the group was given the Rock Hall honor by none besides radio host Howard Stern.
